Turkish Tradition of Exchange of Wedding Rings

In a forthcoming marriage ceremony the couple’s wedding rings will be exchanged using a traditional Turkish custom.  Read on to find out more.

What’s the custom?

The rings are tied together with a piece of red ribbon.

They are presented on a tray (cushion) by the ring bearer. The Bride and Groom take up each others rings in their right hands and hold each others left hands, resting their right hands holding the rings on top of the left.

The vows are then exchanged in turn and after doing so each in turn will place the ring on the others finger (third finger left hand).

The best man (or whoever is chosen from the Grooms family) will then come forward and cut the ribbon. The couple are then pronounced to be husband and wife.
