Firstly, congratulations! This is one of the most exciting times of your (and your partners) life.
Sit back, relax and enjoy the moment.
DO tell your nearest and dearest first. Pick up the phone and hear the genuine excitement in their voice. No aunt, uncle or best friend wants to read the news via social media.
Start dreaming about what you think you (both) want. A big party, an intimate affair, an outside ceremony or a destination wedding. It’s important to incorporate what you both want into your big day. Don’t rush into the planning straight away you’ll have plenty of time to write lists as the months go on.
Planning your wedding or any event can be hectic as there is a lot to organise. I’d advise getting yourself a personalised ‘wedding email address’ (For example: email@example.com). This may seem a little unnecessary but as you go through the planning process you will sign up to lots of websites, be in touch with many different suppliers with different quotes etc. Having a separate email address for your wedding planning will allow you to stay organised whilst not being distracted at work with all those amazing wedding dresses.
When you get past the dreaming stage and the reality of actually planning your wedding kicks in the first thing you will need to do is set a budget and stick to it. It is hard and there is a lot of choice out there but don’t feel you need to go above and beyond your original budget to get the day you deserve. A wedding doesn’t have to be an extravagant and expensive affair.
Whilst it’s important to stay on budget its more important to not compromise on quality. Don’t feel like you need to go with the first venue viewed or the first photographer you met. Take your time, you’re going to remember this for the rest of your life and you want to have those picture perfect photographs to look back on too.
There are many wonderful wedding suppliers that provide exceptional service and who will make sure your day is exactly as it should be.
With many years of experience in the wedding industry we understand the major frustrations experienced by lots of wedding couples. Wedding planning can be stressful and time consuming, so remember we are here to help where and when we can!
Remember your wedding is your wedding. Don’t feel pressurised into getting things you don’t want, having people there that you wouldn’t want and spending more money than you really can afford. Getting married is about you and your partner and it’s important your day reflects those wishes.
