Black Friday:

A Bride's Guide

Every year, on the fourth Thursday of November, our American cousins celebrate Thanksgiving, a day served to remember when colonial pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians shared a bountiful autumn harvest feast back in 1621.  Nowadays, it could be argued that all the feasting with family and friends is simply an opportunity to carb-load in order to give Americans the necessary energy needed to hit the Black Friday sales!

Black Friday has now become almost as much of a tradition as Thanksgiving itself and this year it is anticipated that US shoppers will spend an eye-watering $717.5 billion on seasonal deals and promotions over the Black Friday weekend!  The story of Black Friday began in the 1960s, when a group of American retailers decided to offer discounts on their goods and services in an effort to celebrate the opening of the Christmas shopping season.  A number of years later in 1966, the term Black Friday was coined by the Philadelphia Police Department who noted a huge surge in the number of callouts to attend violent incidents between sales shoppers within the city’s shopping precincts.   Fast forward fifty years and it seems that Americans are literally dying to get a good deal with ten people having been killed and a further 111 sustaining serious injuries since 2010 due to Black Friday brawling.

Although the UK hasn’t quite reached American levels of extreme bargain hunting, Black Friday has slowly clawed its way into British retail culture and both the high street and online retailers are fully embracing the shopping trend.  We have to admit it, so are we!

The Fuze team love a good bargain and with the average UK wedding costing upwards of £25,000 our brides and grooms should definitely take advantage of the serious savings that can be made by thinking ahead and joining in with the Black Friday madness.  To point you in the right direction, we’ve decided to compile a handy list of Black Friday wedding offerings for savvy couples looking to get the best wedding day deals between now and Cyber Monday.  What’s more, because we focussed our bargain hunting gaze firmly on online retailers, you don’t have to suffer the chaos and crowds of Black Friday, just pour yourself a glass of wine, get cosy on the sofa and begin shopping!

To begin

Many independent shops across Scotland are offering exceptional deals on wedding dresses, accessories, skincare, honeymoons, alcohol and more so we suggest your first port of call should be to check out your favourite indie shop’s website/social media to see if they’re offering any deals this weekend.

Toast Black Friday with a glass of Prosecco

Us Brits consumed a whopping 112.7 million bottles of Prosecco in 2017, so we thought we should give you the lowdown on the best places to stock up on the bubbly beauty.  This weekend, both Tesco and M&S are offering Prosecco quaffers 25% off their favourite tipple so clear out the storage cupboard and make plenty of room for storing this delicious deal ahead of your big day.

Pamper both yourself and your bank balance

Almost every online makeup and skincare company has jumped on the Black Friday bandwagon so if you have a particular favourite brand, head over to their website now to see what savings can be made.  We’d like to draw your attention to the John Lewis Black Friday price match guarantee, which applies to all makeup, skincare and fragrances.  If you can prove you can buy one of their products elsewhere at a lesser price, they’ll happily match it, but they’ll probably be better value in the first place as John Lewis are offering some smoking hot deals this weekend with 20% off Nars and Laura Mercier and 10% off Charlotte Tilbury.

You’ll need a holiday after all that shopping

Or a honeymoon more likely!  The internet is brimming with holiday deals both near and far so you’ll be spoilt for choice if you’re planning on booking your honeymoon over the weekend.  Both the Sandals group and Virgin Holidays are offering £150 off trips, British Airways are offering huge savings on long and short-haul flights and Cruise Deals are offering a number of Black Friday honeymoon deals!

We hope the above has steered you in the right direction for taking advantage of the great deals to be embraced over the coming weekend.  We have only just scratched the surface though so dig deeper for deals on shoes, venues, florists, photography and more.  Happy spending : )
