The Fuze Foundation & Caledonia Funeral Aid

In establishing the not-for-profit Fuze Foundation in 2012, we have continually aimed to tackle the growing epidemic of funeral poverty head on and have provided hundreds of funeral, and other ceremony types, free of charge for those in need and financially stretched. The Fuze Foundation also offers not-for-profit Legal Humanist Marriages in Scotland, through Fuze Ceremonies, and campaigns for equality, diversity, and social justice.

Our team of over 70 qualified celebrants are disclosure checked, fully insured and operate across the length and breadth of Scotland. Couples who choose a Humanist Wedding Ceremony conducted by us are supporting our ongoing give back to good causes, as a donation from their fee is gifted to our Fuze Foundation. These donations help us to provide celebrants at no cost to those experiencing financial hardship or terminal illness. We also never charge for children’s funeral celebrant services.

We aspire to extend our help and support to as many individuals in need as possible, so we are honoured to collaborate and partner with Caledonia Funeral Aid to help achieve this. We provide funeral celebrants to the bereaved families they support, entirely free of charge. In addition their aim is to provide practical and emotional support to recently bereaved people across Scotland, regardless of which funeral director they use. They also aim to provide a place to discuss bereavement and its impact whilst offering practical guidance, around all aspects of planning or arranging a funeral.

Emma Kelso, Funeral Advisor and Funeral Arranger at Caledonia Funeral Aid said, “We are passionate about working with like-minded organisations so we can increase the type of support we offer, and are therefore delighted to partner with The Fuze Foundation. We have already called on their services to support bereaved people who have reached out to us for help, and will continue to do so for anyone who wants that kind of support.

Everyone deserves a dignified and caring goodbye, regardless of their financial circumstances and thanks to our partnership with The Fuze Foundation we are helping to achieve that for bereaved people across Scotland.”

Caledonia Funeral Aid will always give unbiased advice to those also forward planning for the future on all aspects of funeral finance and, signpost to financial assistance from government grants and charities. They ensure that all users of their service are communicated to with compassion and dignity, irrespective of their personal circumstances, their ability to pay, their ethnicity or gender.

All of this complements the work of their sister organisation Caledonia Cremation, Scotland’s only not-for-profit funeral directors who offer dignified and caring, direct cremations nationwide – they never turn anyone away. Caledonia Funeral Aid and Caledonia Cremation were set up to support bereaved people across Scotland, especially those facing funeral poverty.

Morag Webster, Chair of The Fuze Foundation added, “Partnering with Caledonia Funeral Aid to provide free of charge funeral celebrant services to the bereaved families they support, is such a natural step for us and supports one of our key purposes of fighting funeral poverty and supporting families in need.

We are committed to continually campaigning to eradicate funeral poverty and share so many values with both of these organisations. In particular, we love how transparent they are when signposting clients to essential knowledge about planning and arranging a funeral. We are looking forward to long and successful partnership”
