Fiona lives and works in the most beautiful, wild place in the northwest of Scotland, Knoydart. It's a peninsula only accessible by boat or by foot over mountain ranges giving it the feel and remoteness of an island.
To Fiona, the word "celebrant" is the very definition of the true way to mark those important, human experiences in our lives - to celebrate real love, to share our joys and sometimes our grief with those who are important to us in our lives. She cannot imagine a better place than Knoydart for people to share those experiences within all its glorious nature.
The love and friendship she discovered here gave her the inspiration to become a celebrant.
She moved to Knoydart in 2014 to take a break from a very busy former life, and never looked back! The land is community owned since 1999 when the small community set up the Knoydart Foundation and set about buying this wonderful place so that they may protect, preserve, and enhance this environment after a succession of poor landowners who had neglected the 16,000-acre estate, and the work is still ongoing to make a sustainable life for all.
Fiona loves that people want to come here to make their celebrations of love, surrounded by all the natural beauty - the mountains, the forest, and the sea, that Knoydart has to offer. To reconnect with our Human-Nature!
Fiona works mainly on Knoydart, providing the community with bespoke wedding ceremonies with an emphasis on nature, renewal of vows, the most wonderful way to reaffirm the bonds we have, and celebrating the life of loved ones passed to ease the grieving process as we say goodbye. She will travel short distances if required to offer her services off Knoydart.
"What an amazing day our wedding was. The fact that the ceremony was beautifully done by a close friend only emphasised that. We will never be able to tell you, Fiona, how much it meant to us for you to do our wedding as your first. The informal, relaxed way in which we created the ceremony together over the summer meant there was never any stress (plenty of laughter though!), and we were completely comfortable sharing ideas and thoughts with you. We chose to do hand-fasting and to have a “wine box/can box” as part of our ceremony, an idea which you were responsible for discovering and which really suited our personalities. You’re good at that…reading people and knowing what they might want. You really did us proud on the day, and even though we were outside on a windy beach you completely captured the attention of all our loved ones gathered there, without so much as having to raise your voice to be heard over the wind. You told the story of us perfectly, made us giggle and smile and drew a tear or two as we talked about our love and our union. We could not have wished for a better celebrant, not only because you are our friend but because you did our wedding with such grace, solemnity, and humour. Thank you, Fiona."- Heather and Lewis Robb
"Fiona is an easy going, friendly person to work with who was committed to making our vows exactly what we wanted them to be. She was on board and supportive throughout the process and delivered an emotional and moving service on the day. She is very talented at what she does. We would absolutely recommend Fiona as the perfect celebrant for your special day."- Fi and Dan Leaver
"We are so glad we asked Fiona to marry us- she just radiates calm and warmth and was so supportive throughout the planning process, even through all its twists and turns (three date changes and a venue change due to covid and baby arrival). We imagined a beautiful ceremony together for a Beltane wedding and Fiona managed to adapt it perfectly for our eventual summer event. I was quite nervous about being the focus of so much attention, but Fiona guided us through, and it went beautifully. Thanks for bearing with us! "- Neil and Jennie Tollick
