Jean Steele, Celebrant
“Life is a great big canvas and you should throw all the paint on it you can.”
Your wedding day…! Yes, it may be a crazy, certainly emotional, happy, fun and, most of all, the best day of your lives. The ceremony, including your vows is the most important part of your day and should reflect your love for each other and have all the elements that bring meaning to it. Jean would be honoured and privileged to work with you to make the whole occasion special and unique. She will work closely with you, helping you to choose readings, create your vows, and to make sure the ceremony is personal, touching, light hearted and truly memorable.
Jean firmly believes that life is for the living, the ups and the downs and celebrating that life at its end is so very important.
Capturing the essence of a loved one’s life means remembering all aspects; the hard times and sadness that we all encounter but also the happy times, the triumphs and the achievements. Our loved ones lives deserve to be at the centre of our thoughts, remembered, loved and cherished and that’s what she hopes to achieve when creating her funeral ceremonies.
So whether a funeral ceremony or a wedding ceremony , Celebrating the life of a loved one, or celebrating the love of a couple on their wedding day, creating a ceremony to remember is creating a ceremony filled with the things that mean most to you. Jean can guide you through all the elements that make it poignant, dignified and personal.
Jean was a teacher and has enjoyed working in a support role with children and families for over 30 years supporting families whose children have additional needs. She loves running, mainly with her two dogs for company, is in a walking group with friends, and loves swimming and being outdoors. She loves her arts and crafts, she draws, paints and sews, is an avid reader but especially loves time together with family and friends.
Jean is available for Wedding and Funeral ceremonies and is happy to travel in and around Edinburgh and surrounding areas, The Lothians, the Central belt, the Borders and the Glasgow area.
“Our celebrant, Jean Steele, was very organised and incredibly attentive, making sure we didn’t have anything to worry about ahead of the big day. She is also genuinely invested in each of her ceremonies, making sure it’s shaped to reflect your story and the tone you want to strike on the day. Most importantly, with Jean’s guidance we were able to craft an incredibly personal ceremony that was all we’d hoped for and more. Friends and family told us it was the most personal, emotional and joyful wedding ceremony they’d ever been part of, and it was honestly the absolute highlight of an otherwise wonderful day. We wouldn’t have had it any other way – and can’t recommend Jean as a celebrant and all-round wonderful human enough”.

“Jean Steele conducted our ceremony on Saturday 1st June. From the moment we first met Jean we knew she was the perfect choice. The whole process was relaxed, easy and stress free. We loved meeting with Jean and telling her our story, and she was incredibly generous with her time, we felt so looked after. The little reminders of the legal bits required and the things we still had to do were very much appreciated. Jean gave us suggestions for the ceremony and encouraged us to create something which was beyond what we could have ever imagined. She was also so kind to our son and helped us to make him a part of it with the sand ceremony and the handing over of rings. The ceremony was beautiful, fun, relaxed and emotional. Our guests loved how unique and thoughtful the ceremony was and were so impressed by Jean’s warmth, humour and personable nature. We are so grateful to Jean for creating and conducting such a memorable and meaningful ceremony, it was the highlight of an incredibly special day. We really have made a friend for life in Jean. Thanks so much!”
