Marjorie was inspired to become a Humanist Celebrant after attending a family wedding at Kelburn Castle in Largs. It was meaningful, personal, and different from other ceremonies she had attended and she was blown away by the flair, fun, and enthusiasm of the Celebrant. She was thinking of a career change and saw helping a couple turn their wedding dreams into reality in such a unique way was something she would really enjoy. She found out that the Celebrant was Gillian Phillips from Fuze Ceremonies and so her new journey began.
Marjorie has been a civil servant for most of her career, working with people from all walks of life. She has supported people through the most difficult times of their life, as well as celebrating their success and achievements. Recognising diversity and that everyone is unique she has coached and mentored many colleagues, encouraging them to share experiences and helping them achieve their full potential. Through this, she has developed excellent listening, consultation, and communication skills as well as empathy and attention to detail, skills that are essential for a good Celebrant.
Building on strong foundations laid by her parents, she has a strong bond with her close and extended family and makes a real effort to maintain those family relationships both in the UK and abroad. Having good friends and close family means there is always someone there to share the good time and the bad. She has been married to Bruce for over 30 years and has a grown-up daughter.

"Craig and I probably like most couples planning a wedding ceremony didn’t know where to start. Marjorie Russell organised to meet up with us to gather our thoughts and pull together our love story and ideas. She was very helpful and supplied us with the legal paperwork to complete along with timelines of when things need to be handed in and where to, which we welcomed greatly as I was clueless and probably most nervous about. Marjorie was very quick to get our ideas down on paper and supply us with our first ceremony draft, it was that great it only took twice more to finalise and that was just name spelling etc as she had done a fantastic job at getting it to the way we wanted it to be. Marjorie kept in touch and checked in with us throughout our wait for our day which was reassuring. Our big day, Marjorie was very calming and organised and had everything prepared for my arrival. The service went just as we had planned and Marjorie was great at keeping everyone right. We had lots of lovely comments on how beautiful and meaningful the ceremony was, it made everyone feel included, from our young children walking up the aisle holding hands and young son being the ring bearer, to our dads drinking from the quaich with us.
