Karen and Mark are caught on camera perfectly by Dave Fallon Photography

“I first met this lovely couple, Karen and Mark, on a zoom call on New Year’s Eve 2021, when we discussed their forthcoming wedding, which was to take place the following year. It was such a pleasure to chat to them about their wedding plans and I was pleased and privileged to say yes when they asked me to be their celebrant, to create and conduct their wedding ceremony at Oran Mor on 18th June 2022.
The wedding ceremony was quite magical, full of fun and love. We had musical contributions and a reading from their friends. And. As part of the ceremony, Mark and Karen exchanged personal vows in the traditional manner of hand fasting when I tied tartan around their joined hands as a way of confirming their union. When all legal parts of the ceremony were complete, Mark and Karen shared a whisky from the Quaich, as their first official act as a married couple – symbolising the life they would share together as Husband and Wife.”

Couples Story
Karen and Mark met via the magic of the internet. Despite both declaring they were outdoor enthusiasts – they actually spent a lot of weekends getting to know each other on dinner dates and in the pubs of Byres Road. Within a year they had booked to go travelling together in South East Asia.
They spent four months having fun exploring new places and getting to know the things about each other that dinner dates won’t teach you. For instance, Karen learned about Mark’s love for adventure and his caring and patient nature. And his tendency to sleep walk in hotels. Whilst, Mark learned about…Karen’s loyal and kind nature. That she’s always herself and speaks her mind. And her love of americano’s, poached eggs and Strongbow – all of which are extremely hard to find in South East Asia.
After returning home, a bit later than planned due to missing a flight in Bangkok, they decided to move in together and haven’t looked back since. They have prioritised spending time together and enjoying being each other’s best friend, in-between their busy and often conflicting work schedules.
In 2019 Mark and Karen got engaged whilst on holiday in New York. They hoped to get married the following year but none of us could have predicted what 2020 would bring. So, after a couple of years of numerous lockdowns and more number 10 parties than Boris can remember… Here we are today on the day of their wedding. And they both agree that being able to share their special day with you all has been well worth the wait.”
