You’ve decided on a humanist ceremony so now what?
First things first, BOOK YOUR CELEBRANT.
We get asked all the time when should we book our celebrant? Is it too early to book our celebrant?
Our answer is always, as soon as possible! If you have your date and venue/location set then next on your list should be your celebrant. The wedding your planning is to celebrate your marriage and in order to have the marriage you need someone to carry out the ‘legal bit!’
There are quite a few different Humanist organisations to choose from in Scotland and each have their own ways of doing things. At Fuze our celebrants are authorised by the Registrar General of Scotland to conduct legal ceremonies almost anywhere. So whether you want to get married in a hotel, on a beach, on top of a mountain, in your home, in your garden etc you can!
All our celebrants are fully licensed and we also require a full disclosure check.
In the event of your celebrant not being able to conduct your ceremony for example: illness, family bereavement etc we have a back up process which means you won’t be left short on your wedding day. We always have a back up celebrant ready to step in if need be. We’d like to reassure you and say that this has only ever needed to be put into place once and we’ve conducted over a thousand ceremony.
We have a team of celebrants all over Scotland which means we always try to match you with the celebrant that lives closest to you or the venue whichever makes the most sense. We include 50 miles of reasonable travel within our fee. Of course if you are based overseas this isn’t a problem as you can meet with your celebrant via Skype and correspondence can be done via email until you get the opportunity to meet face to face.
We’re ready to book our celebrant now what?
Have a look at our website for lots of information on our team. We have a dedicated celebrants page where you can read profiles of the team and get to know them a bit more.
If you’re ready to proceed all you need to do is contact us via our website, social media channels, wedding shows etc. At this point we only need your date and venue and we can do the rest for you. We’ll check the teams availability and will always try to give you a couple of profiles to choose from. Our celebrants diaries do fill up very quickly especially for those summer months and at weekends.
After looking at the profiles decide who you think would be the best fit for you and your partner. It’s important you like them as this will help when creating your ceremony.
After picking ‘the one’ (your celebrant, not your other half!) we’ll send you the online booking form to complete. This ensures we have all your details to pass to the celebrant.
Upon receipt of this we’ll process everything, invoice you for the deposit amount and pass all the details over to your celebrant. You should expect an introductory email from your celebrant within a couple of days. They’ll give you an idea of when they’d look to meet you to begin discussing your ceremony.
We ask for a £100 non-refundable deposit to secure your celebrant and once the deposit is received you’re good to go.
The remaining balance is then due 6 weeks prior to your ceremony. We’ll send you a reminder out 8 weeks prior to your ceremony as we know you’ll have lots of payments to keep track of.
If you want to pay up your balance in installments this is good for too. Just let us know when you’ve made a payment or if you’d like us to set up other invoices to you we can certainly do that.
