Eloping to Scotland: Everything you need to know…

November 26, 2024by Fuze Admin

Why elope?

While the dictionary definition of eloping has morphed into something a little looser nowadays, the romantic and adventurous spirit of eloping remains the same and has never been more lusted after. Modern elopements come in all shapes and sizes; from a micro-wedding comprising twenty guests in a pretty city centre park to a mountainside ceremony for two with only the couple’s four-legged friends as guests, the world of eloping is your oyster!

Over the past two years, we’ve noticed a huge surge in the number of couples looking to elope to Scotland and they all have their own set of reasons for doing so.  Some couples have complicated family situations, some can’t afford the average price-tag of a traditional wedding, some don’t have the time to plan a large wedding, but more often than not, our couples want to embrace the adventure and romance of a true Scottish elopement.

Why Scotland?

Scotland benefits from being one of only six countries in the world where couples are able to marry whenever and wherever they want, and in a country as romantic, majestic and versatile as Scotland, that’s a total WIN for adventure hungry elopers!  From vibrant cities steeped in history and packed with award-winning restaurants and hotels to ancient forested mountains and isolated heathered glens, Scotland is a country of marvellous extremes.

How we can help

Lots of couples from outside Scotland get in touch with us because they have absolutely no idea where to start when it comes to planning their Scottish elopement so we’ve put together a handy five-step-plan of action to help couples on their elopement planning journey.  We’re also just a phone call or email away if you’d like to dig a bit deeper.

Elope into the Wilderness

If you’re looking to marry in a quintessential Scottish environment; imagine waterfalls cascading down majestic mountains, stags trotting amidst ancient forests, heathered glens where your only companion is the swirling mist (you get the picture), then we highly recommend getting in touch with our Highlands and Islands Celebrant, Paula Wilkinson. Paula, together with elopement photographer, Trevor Wilson from Silver Photography, recently formed Bog Cotton Scottish Elopements and have since been inundated with enquiries from couples looking to embrace adventure elopements in the Scottish wilderness.  Paula and Trevor will get to know your preferred landscape, how adventurous you’re willing to get, the number of guests attending as well a plethora of other factors to determine the best possible location and timeline for your big day!  To see some of Paula and Trevor’s recent elopements, check out their Facebook page.

City Centre Elopements

When envisaging a Scottish elopement, the quintessential image that springs to mind is one of misty glens, snow-capped mountains and a cosy hideaway for two.  What if, however, you want all the intimacy and romance of a Highland elopement, but slap-bang in the middle of the city?  If you would rather spend your “weddingmoon” ambling hand-in-hand upon the cobbled streets of one of Scotland’s sensational historic cities, but you also want the solitude, intimacy and romance of an elopement, then our city-slicking Celebrants Mo Ackroyd (Edinburgh) and Gillian Phillips (Glasgow) are available to point you in the perfect direction.
