Faces of the Fuze Foundation: Morag Webster

December 27, 2025by Morag Webster

This month, we’re shining a light on someone who has been woven into the fabric of Fuze from the very beginning.  From Celebrant to Director, and now Chair of the Fuze Foundation, Morag’s compassion, humour, and wholehearted commitment sit at the heart of everything we do.

Meet Morag

Hi, I’m Morag, based near Helensburgh on the beautiful west coast of Scotland.

I was born in the summer of 1979 in Glasgow to Irene and Gordon (we’ll just leave the maths at that, thanks!), and spent most of my childhood in rural Aberdeenshire after my parents relocated for work.  It was a busy, happy childhood, full of adventures with my younger sister Seonagh and a small army of animals to keep us on our toes.

Life changed dramatically when I lost my dad at 19 after a determined and stubborn battle with cancer.  He was only 54.  That loss left a mark that quietly shaped so much of my future –  particularly around funerals, grief, and the importance of meaningful, truly personal goodbyes.  Even then, long before I knew what a celebrant was, something in me understood that people deserved better.

My Path to Fuze

After university, I worked in sales and interior design and moved around the country, from the North East to Inverness, before settling back in the central belt.  I met my husband Stu in 2010, and we married in 2013 in a ceremony conducted by Anne at the magical New Lanark Mills.

We welcomed our son Arthur in May 2019, just in time to navigate the chaos of parenting a small child during a pandemic, while still juggling everything with Fuze.  Our family grew again when Marshall the dog arrived in May 2023, and he now runs the household with great confidence.

Last year we moved from Falkirk to a small village near Helensburgh.  Being close to the water and surrounded by spectacular scenery has been good for the soul.  The golf club is just a stone’s throw away, so I’ve taken up golf too.  The golf is questionable, but the clubhouse snacks are outstanding.

Community & Giving Back

Community involvement is genuinely important to me.  I’m a Scouts Beaver Leader, sit on the Primary School Association committee as well as the board of the local community council.  I also gained my Scottish Ruby Union 1st aid certificate, so help out at the local Rugby Club. I like to keep things interesting!

I’ve also always loved a fundraising challenge. Over the years I’ve walked, run, and, yes, thrown myself out of a plane, despite being terrified of flying and having a healthy dose of vertigo. Somehow, raising money for good causes gave me the push I needed (quite literally).  A bungee jump, however, remains a firm “nope”.

Why Celebrancy Matters to Me

I joined Anne and Victoria in early 2012 when I completed my celebrant training.  It wasn’t long before I left my interior design role to dive fully into the world of ceremonies and help build Fuze Ceremonies from the ground up.

Alongside Laura, I now look after finance, training, mentoring, and all the behind-the-scenes structure that keeps us running smoothly.  I still conduct ceremonies too, something I will always love.

The funeral side of celebrancy is especially meaningful for me.  When we lost my dad, we didn’t get the goodbye he would have wanted or the one we needed.  Options simply weren’t available.  That experience has shaped the way I approach every ceremony.  No one should ever feel that their goodbye wasn’t right for them or their loved one.  That belief still drives me every single day.

I’m also the internal verifier for the UKCAPSA Celebrant Diploma, supporting the next generation of celebrants as they develop their voice, confidence, and craft.

My Work with the Fuze Foundation

In 2023, I proudly stepped into the role of Chair of the Fuze Foundation, taking over the reins from Anne.  The Foundation’s mission, to support people facing hardship or exclusion, feels deeply connected to my own experiences and values. Compassion, dignity, and fairness are at the heart of everything we do, and it’s a privilege to help lead that work.

I also take our legal responsibilities seriously.  A big part of my role involves ensuring we uphold the Marriage Act and operate with complete integrity, compliance and professionalism.  It’s not glamorous, but it’s vital, and it matters to me that we do things properly.

Life Outside Work

When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me out walking with Marshall, slowly trying to reduce my golf handicap, or helping out with one of the many community groups I’m involved in.  I love spending time outdoors, snowboarding, cooking, going to gigs and rugby, catching up with friends and family, and pretending I’ll finally finish that book on my bedside table (we’ve all got one).

Although I grew up in a fairly religious rural community, I never felt connected to organised worship.  Discovering Humanism around 2009 was like recognising something that had already been part of who I was, kindness, fairness, valuing this one life, and doing what we can to make things better for others.

A Final Word

I genuinely love everything I do at Fuze, whether it’s delivering a ceremony, supporting others, crunching the numbers, or making sure we’re ticking all the right legal boxes.  It’s a privilege to work alongside such an incredible team and to help shape the work of the Fuze Foundation.

Together, we are the Fuze Foundation — and I’m proud to play my part.

About The Fuze Foundation

The Fuze Foundation is a Scottish not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting Humanist values, supporting equality and inclusivity, and reducing funeral poverty across Scotland. Through the work of our trained Fuze Celebrants, we provide meaningful, personalised Humanist ceremonies for people from all backgrounds –  ensuring that everyone has access to dignity, compassion, and choice at life’s most significant moments.

We offer free and low-cost funeral ceremonies for families experiencing financial hardship, and a portion of every legal Humanist wedding ceremony is donated directly to our charity partners, including organisations such as MND Scotland, Beatson Cancer Charity, CHAS, SAMH, Alzheimer Scotland and more.

Our mission is simple: to make a positive difference to people’s lives through kindness, community, fairness and connection.
Every ceremony delivered, every pound raised, and every act of support helps us continue this work.
