Faces of the Fuze Foundation: Laura Widdop

January 27, 2026by Morag Webster

Laura is one of the driving forces behind the Fuze Foundation.  As our secretary, and Managing Director of Fuze Ceremonies, she brings clarity, compassion, and a steady hand to everything she does.  Deeply committed to people, purpose, and doing things the right way, Laura plays a vital role in ensuring the Foundation’s work remains thoughtful, inclusive, and firmly rooted in the values we stand for.

Meet Laura

When you talk to me you will quickly notice that I sound very English (nothing wrong with that!) but I’m actually very proud to be Scottish. I was born in Paisley, and when my dad changed career, it meant our family moved from Barrhead to England when I was just one year old. Although my accent has stayed firmly south of the border, Scotland has always felt like home, and fifteen years ago I found my way back. Moving closer to my family suddenly felt incredibly important, a decision I don’t regret for one second.

Family has always been at the centre of my life. I was brought up with a strong work ethic and the belief that if you commit to something, you give it your all. Hard work, pride, and loyalty weren’t things you talked about, they were simply how you lived. Those values have followed me through every stage of my life and continue to influence how I live today.

My Path to Fuze

My career journey has been varied to put it mildly, but every role has taught me something invaluable. Working as a holiday rep in Tenerife in my 20’s was truly life changing. It pushed me far outside my comfort zone and taught me independence, confidence, and resilience. It also showed me the importance of connection and of creating meaningful experiences, moments that people carry with them long after the day itself has passed.

From there, I moved into roles as a Branch Manager and later an Area Manager, learning how to lead teams, manage pressure, and take responsibility not just for performance, but for people. When I returned to Glasgow, I started in a HR based role which deepened that understanding even further, giving me insight into how vital it is for people to feel supported, valued, and genuinely cared for at work.

Joining Fuze

Joining Fuze was one of the most personal decisions of my career. The organisation was founded by my Auntie Anne and Cousin Morag. From the very beginning, Fuze was built on heart and doing things properly. I watched the organisation grow and succeed and I felt so proud of what Anne and Morag had achieved, so when the opportunity arose to join the Fuze family, it was a no brainer!!! In fact, I turned down a role with Disney to do so, which, for a huge Disney fan like me, was not a decision taken lightly. But I knew where I was meant to be.

My passion for Fuze comes from my heart. It’s built on care, connection, and creating unforgettable moments for people during some of the most important days of their lives. I care deeply about the experience our couples and families have, the culture we create, and the people within our team. This isn’t just a job to me, it’s something I believe in wholeheartedly.

Life Outside Work

Outside of work, my family, friends (and Disney) are what matters most and reminds me why connection matters so much. I’m proud of the journey that brought me here, not because it’s been perfect, but because it’s been real.

A Final Word

And as a lifelong Disney fan, it feels only right to say this:

‘If you can dream it, you can do it’, and at Fuze, that’s exactly what we strive to create every single day.

Together, we are the Fuze Foundation — and I’m proud to play my part.

About The Fuze Foundation

The Fuze Foundation is a Scottish not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting Humanist values, supporting equality and inclusivity, and reducing funeral poverty across Scotland. Through the work of our trained Fuze Celebrants, we provide meaningful, personalised Humanist ceremonies for people from all backgrounds –  ensuring that everyone has access to dignity, compassion, and choice at life’s most significant moments.

We offer free and low-cost funeral ceremonies for families experiencing financial hardship, and a portion of every legal Humanist wedding ceremony is donated directly to our charity partners, including organisations such as MND Scotland, Beatson Cancer Charity, CHAS, SAMH, Alzheimer Scotland and more.

Our mission is simple: to make a positive difference to people’s lives through kindness, community, fairness and connection.
Every ceremony delivered, every pound raised, and every act of support helps us continue this work.
