Keeping those wedding jitters in check

Where to begin on this topic? It’s a toughie all right!

I’ve worked with many couples over the last few years, many of whom are so nervous on their wedding day that my heart really does go out to them. And of course, it’s perfectly understandable. They’ve spent a great deal of time and expense creating the wedding of their dreams, and it can be a stressful process!

By the time the big day comes around everyone is shattered, but also excited, maybe a bit scared, it’s a real roller coaster of emotions. And for lots of people, the idea of being centre of attention can be pretty overwhelming. But in my experience, there are a few tips that can help alleviate the nerves…..

For example, if worrying about having all eyes on you, just remember that all of those eyes are smiling at you! Everyone in the room is there because they care about you and want you to be happy. It’s a celebration of your love and your guests want to share it with you.

On the morning of the wedding, it’s important to eat a decent breakfast if you can, it may be a good few hours before you eat again and having butterflies on top of an empty stomach is not a good mix, trust me!

Don’t hold it all in! If you feel the need to shed a few tears, then just go for it! A good old release of emotion can really help you to feel less anxious, and this goes for the grooms too!

Take a step back if it’s all getting a bit much. It’s okay to take yourself away for 10 minutes, take a few deep breaths and count to ten!

But above all else, try not to let it all get the better of you. After all the time, energy and effort spent on the day, it’s such a shame to let nerves spoil your day. I know it can be difficult, but do try and stay calm, take lots of deep breaths and relish every minute.
