Each week as part of our Thursday Thoughts series of blogs, we’ve been taking a look at how we can be the best possible version of ourselves.  This week, we thought we’d highlight why going back to basics by understanding and acknowledging the fundamentals of your professional or personal life, can be incredibly useful.

As individuals, we have a responsibility to ourselves to be the most successful we can possibly be whether that’s as a parent, doctor, celebrant or all three!  In order for us to do this, it helps massively to strip things back and rediscover the fundamental elements of our business or role.  Theoretically, if the fundamentals are in all place, we should be able to perform at our very best.  One of the most crucial fundamentals is strategy.

Having a well defined and strategic point of focus creates a clear direction for us to move in.  We are less likely to be taken off course by distractions; however, should one arise, returning to point is far easier with our goals, roles or projects clearly set in our minds.

In everyday life distractions can materialise and play havoc with the best of plans, but this should not cause us to doubt our aims and goals. Part of success is the ability to adapt and create new plans that achieve the same outcome via a different route should an obstacle appear and block the original path/plan.

So next time you lose sight of your goal remember to strip it back to the fundamentals.  The goal and how you intend to get there using the drive and passion that set you on this path in the first place.
