One of the great things about getting married in Scotland is that you can hold your ceremony virtually anywhere. The top of a mountain, the shore of a loch, or for Anne and Peter, your own home.
After experiencing difficulties trying to organise a wedding venue from abroad, Anne discovered that their perfect venue was actually on their own doorstep.
Did you actually get married at home?
Yes, we got married in our garden.
Was this where you planned to hold you wedding from the start?
No, but It was too difficult to organise anywhere as I was working abroad. So we decided to have a low key celebration at home as I couldn’t book anything online.
Was there anything special about the proposal?
I proposed to him!
So, who was team Peter and who was team Anne?
It was just our two witnesses, my sister and Peter’s brother.
You chose to have a Humanist Marriage Ceremony, tell us a bit about the ceremony?
I am an atheist, so a Humanist ceremony was the natural choice
I wrote the whole script myself and included a poem by Bertrand Russell and my favourite, The Owl and the pussycat.
We included three songs, one to enter, one during signing and one at the end on ipod.
In your opinion…what made your wedding unique?
The ceremony reflected us; it was in our garden and it was exactly what we wanted.
How would you sum up your Wedding day?
It was a perfect day. After 21 years together and being in our 40’s we did not want a massive wedding. We wanted something different and relaxed. The sun shone at the right time, all the family were involved – and that made it too.
The Ceremony and the celebrant were great. It was just the right level of meaning and emotion without being soppy, and it was totally unique to us. It was relaxed and great fun. Everyone had a great day.
What one piece of advice would you give to others planning their wedding?
You don’t need to spend a fortune to have a great wedding
So, who helped make your day special?
Wilson Catering Hire for the catering hire, Corney and Barrow for the champagne and Wine, and my nieces for the gazebo and canapés.
