Two Hearts, One Journey
Standing with Patricia and Ed at The Harbour Chapel – a venue that perfectly captures warmth and character – I was struck by how deeply they care for each other. Their ceremony was filled with laughter, tears, and heartfelt words – surrounded by family and friends who had watched their journey unfold over decades.
It’s not every day that you get to celebrate a love story that began in youth, weathered the years apart, and returned even stronger. Patricia and Ed’s wedding was a beautiful reminder that love, when it’s true, always finds its way back.
From Teenage Sweethearts to Lifelong Soulmates
Patricia and Ed first met in Kent back in 1984. They were just 17 and 18, young and full of hope, and remarkably they even share the same birthday! Ed was the quieter one, and Patricia didn’t realise he had feelings for her until he surprised her by asking her out. It turned out the feelings were mutual, as Patricia had always liked Ed too.
Their early romance was filled with laughter, shared walks to the local pub, and weekly visits to the photography shop. They still fondly recall those days and the friends they shared, many of whom remain close to this day.
But life had other plans. Ed’s career took him away, and Patricia, more of a homebird, stayed put. Though their relationship ended, they never fully lost touch and would often hear updates through mutual friends about the others lives.

A Leap of Faith and a Life Rebuilt Together
Fast forward and they were to reconnect and eventually decided to meet again in the Lake District, alongside their beloved dogs Sprocket and Olly. It was a gentle, nervous reunion but once together, they quickly found comfort in each other’s company, just like the old days. Two years of long-distance love, two national lockdowns, and many heartfelt moments later, Ed made the move to Scotland in 2021. On their shared birthday in 2023, he surprised Patricia with a necklace and a promise, a ring to follow, and a life together. Patricia said yes, and the next chapter began.
Patricia and Ed are happiest walking side by side, whether it’s around the Lakes, the coast, or just out with the dogs. They share a love of the sea, good music, gripping TV dramas, and plenty of laughs. One memorable stay in Dunbar, where their hotel room flooded from the roof, gave them both a story they’ll never forget! And here they were, back in Dunbar at the wonderful Harbour Chapel to become husband and wife.
Their Reasons Why – Straight from the Heart
Before the ceremony, I asked Patricia and Ed separately, and in secret, to tell me what they love most about each other. Their words, revealed for the first time during the ceremony, were nothing short of heart-melting.
Patricia spoke of Ed’s gentle, loving soul and how deeply he cares for others. She feels truly cherished and is grateful to have been trusted with his heart once again. She also shared how perfectly in sync they are—how a single glance can spark shared laughter that feels effortless and familiar. And in one of those beautifully personal details that say so much, she mentioned how she loves Ed’s fondness for Snoopy and the fact that he proudly moved in with his Winnie the Pooh mug collection at 54.
Ed’s reflections were just as touching. He told me how Patricia always seems to know when he needs a lift, slipping a card or photo into his hand or onto his desk—small acts of kindness he’s carefully kept over the years. He admires her for always thinking of others before herself and treasures the way they both share the same slightly cheeky sense of humour, which often ends in uncontrollable fits of giggles.
Of course, no great love story comes without a few quirks. Patricia wishes Ed would remember to rinse the sink after cooking—but adds, with a smile, that she’s just glad he cooks! Meanwhile, Ed says Patricia’s uncanny ability to remember every date and event keeps him on his toes—especially as he’s learned that if it’s not written down, it’s gone! But even these little quirks are part of what makes their bond so real and relatable—a love grounded in humour, understanding, and the joy of truly knowing one another.
Ed and Patricia chose to include the ancient Celtic tradition of Handfasting in their ceremony. This gesture symbolised them as individuals, becoming a couple and creating a bond that will not be broken. This ritual dates back to around 7000 BC. As pictured below, the Black Watch tartan was used.
