It has been great to see the provisional figures for the first quarter of 2015 released by the National Records of Scotland. This period covers the 1st January to the 31st March 2015.
It has been interesting to see that there were 3,889 marriages which is a rise of almost 10% compared to the same time in 2014. We can say from our own experience with the number of ceremonies that the Fuze team have conducted this makes sense. We are seeing more and more couples move away from the more traditional summer time weddings (May-September) and move towards having their wedding in the off-peak season (October-March).
Of this total (3,889), 462 were same-sex marriages (almost 12%). In turn, there has been a significant decrease in the number of civil partnerships (20) and this may be due to more people taking the opportunity to legally marry due to the recent changes to the Marriage Act. This means that one in eight marriages are same sex marriages. However, we do still expect there to be a demand for civil partnership from those who prefer it to marriage.
The first quarter was extremely busy for us and as well as the number of ceremonies that our Marriage Officers conducted we have had a huge increase in the number of enquiries and bookings. This is great for the team and we are very excited to see what the next quarter will hold for us.
