Each week as part of our Thursday Thoughts series of blogs, we’ve been having a think about how we can be the best possible version of ourselves. This week, we’re looking at how we can avoid focusing on the wrong things and we’re going to shine the spotlight on climber, Alex Honnold, who made the ridiculously ambitious decision to free solo climb the 3,200ft face of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. Check out the short clip at the bottom of the page to familiarise yourself with his story.
As you will probably agree, Alex’s unflinching dedication and singleminded approach to achieving his dream was truly inspiring. People like Alex visualise what they need to do to achieve their goals. They know there will be obstacles along the way, but they never lose sight of the end goal. Alex always visualised a successful pitch and focused on how he was going to get there, not the many barriers that stood in his path.
This level of positive thinking can impact EVERY sphere of your professional and personal life. For instance, an entrepreneur should always keep their creation at the forefront of their mind, they should not burden their ambition with ‘what ifs’ and ‘buts’. Work on a strategy on how to get where you want, never lose sight of your ambition and continually refer to it. Obstacles are what you see when you take your eye off the goal.
All winners set themselves up to eliminate any doubt and focus on what they have to do rather than why they might fail. Achieving your goal takes time, effort and dedication, but by activating this simple mental process, your end goal WILL come to fruition!
