Josephine King

Josephine King, Celebrant

At the ceremonies she delivers, Josephine's calm attitude and her clear voice help to create an atmosphere of appreciation and respect. She enjoys using her listening skills to find out exactly how you wish to celebrate a life event or to remember a loved one, and Josephine will work with you to ensure that your own wishes are fully met. Her aim is that everyone present will find meaning and will feel included in the ceremony that you choose.

Josephine’s career experience includes charities and the public sector, always in public-facing roles. During her 12 years as the coordinator at a Youth Drop-In Centre, Josephine developed excellent skills in organising and communication.

Throughout her adult life, she has volunteered in a wide range of roles, working for and alongside people from across the community. She has completed relevant training and currently volunteers in the area of grief and dying, to improve her understanding of what families face at the end of a life.

Josephine expresses her Humanist principles through a lifelong interest in the environment and biodiversity. If this is of interest to you, Josephine will work with you to create a ceremony with sustainable features, using simple, natural elements to symbolise what you want to express.

Zoe Bell-Arnot

Zoe Bell-Arnot

Zoe is available to conduct Vow Renewal, Baby Naming & Funeral Ceremonies.

Zoe started her business when she was 18 years old. After competing from an early age and being lucky enough to realise her ambition as a dancer she wanted to pass on her knowledge to others. With a passion for dance and teaching, she began her first dance school with 14 students. Over 27 years her talented students and her drive for them to be the best that they could be amassed to around 460 students and 3 schools within Glasgow. Annual performances were held in venues across Glasgow, including the Clyde Auditorium and the Theatre Royal. With her drive and love of dance, she earned 14 diplomas in her dance career with distinctions which led her to become an adjudicator and lecturer.

In the latter part of her career Zoe wanted her local community to gain from movement and dance and set up her own studio. Over a period of 5 years, she held weekly classes for those who were living with dementia, receiving treatment post/pre-surgery, and for people who were living with chronic pain to help aid their recovery or simply to be able to meet with others and share their experiences which in turn helped with their overall wellbeing. Another great opportunity arose 2 years ago to create specialised dance classes for East Dunbartonshire Carers Link, a funded initiative that allows carers to have a little respite which operated a weekly basis.

After experiencing the loss of loved ones and friends Zoe decided to begin her journey to qualify as a celebrant as she believed that the most important aspect of the service is the people involved and their story. Whether this was to celebrate their life story, a new life, or a joining of two lives together.

In September 2023 Zoe joined a fantastic local whisky distillery as a tour ambassador to enable her to become comfortable in a speaking role. She meets so many people from different walks of life, ages, and nationalities and now relays stories and historical facts on a weekly basis. This new love came as a surprise, who knew that the whisky industry was so complex and enthralling?

Zoe’s other loves are her husband, 2 teenage children and her bearded collie Clyde. She loves to travel to see and experience different places and cultures that the world has to offer with her family when she can, and her hobbies are beekeeping, swimming, and reading.

Zoe loves to hear stories of other people's lives and wishes to capture the essence of this and reiterate it to their loved ones and friends. She feels extremely lucky to be in a position to be able to do this and also very privileged to be part of other people’s special days.

Zoe is based in Glasgow and covers Ayrshire, East Renfrewshire & Renfrewshire, Edinburgh & Lothian, Glasgow City & East /West Dunbartonshire and Stirlingshire.

Gayle Morrison

Gayle Morrison, Celebrant

Gayle is available for Vow Renewals & Baby Naming, and Funeral Ceremonies

Gayle is based in Stirling and covers Aberdeenshire & Moray, Ayrshire, Dumfries & Galloway, East Renfrewshire & Renfrewshire, Edinburgh & Lothian, Glasgow City & East /West Dunbartonshire, Inverness-shire, North & South Lanarkshire, Perthshire, Fife & Angus, Scottish Borders, and Stirlingshire

Gayle has always loved hearing the stories of people’s lives – where they were born and brought up, how couples met, trips they have taken that they refer back to for years to come, and moments of laughter and sadness that they carry with them. Gayle believes each turn of someone’s life can change the direction of their future, and being asked to pull this together for a Humanist Ceremony is something Gayle thrives on. Gayle focuses on keeping everything as personal as possible and telling the story of a life or lives.

Becoming a Humanist Celebrant was something Gayle was always interested in, but the moment had to be right, and when her daughter got engaged, that was the sign she needed. Putting the story of people’s lives to paper and bringing it all to life is something Gayle will never get bored of or take for granted. With each ceremony, she strives to represent those involved as best she can. Gayle is intrigued with life stories and believes there is no role like this. She loves finding out information about people where the phrase “never judge a book by its cover” is never more appropriate.

Gayle was raised in the Outer Hebrides and loves the outdoors. She is now based in Stirling, the heart of Scotland, and takes advantage of the vast open space available to walk and run in when she gets the chance. Gayle can talk for hours about her cat and loves to travel at any opportunity with her partner Robert. She has two grown-up children, both of whom are making their own way in the world, and she could not be prouder of them.

Gayle says ‘It is a huge honour to be asked to conduct a life moment, and I take that very seriously.’

Christine Carruth

Christine Carruth, Celebrant

Christine is available for Vow Renewals & Baby Naming, and Funeral Ceremonies

Christine is based in Renfrewshire and covers Argyll & Bute, Ayrshire, East Renfrewshire & Renfrewshire, Glasgow City & East /West Dunbartonshire, and North & South Lanarkshire

Christine would love to be able to guide and support you through those memorable days and times of your life. It doesn’t matter what those may be – a naming day or saying goodbye to someone you have loved– she will be there to help you process your thoughts and create a celebration that is both empathetic and reflects you, your personality and your values.

As a primary school teacher in her local community for 25 years, Christine thrives on getting to know people and bringing the best out of them. She believes in equality and supports people in their drive to equal opportunities for themselves and others. At the same time, Christine celebrates diversity, and all of this is what motivated her to become a Humanist Celebrant. She just enjoys being around people and listening to their stories.

Personally, Christine enjoys travelling, cooking/eating, and is always looking for a challenge. A couple of years ago, she walked the Northumberland Coastal Path to celebrate a “big” birthday.

Christine is a country girl at heart. She grew up in the Ayrshire countryside and now lives on a farm in Renfrewshire with her husband and two teenage children. She can be found there normally chasing the dog around the garden, trying to retrieve something it shouldn’t really have.
