Gina Williams, Fuze Celebrant announces her 382km charity cycle ride in support for The Fuze Foundation’s 2022 charities

Vietnam to Cambodia for Charities

Today, we are announcing that Gina Williams, a Humanist Wedding Celebrant at The Fuze Foundation and Fuze Ceremonies, will embark on a self-funded 11 day charity cycle ride covering approximately 382km from Vietnam to Cambodia, from 12^th to 22^nd November 2022.

Gina will be fundraising for The Fuze Foundation’s three 2022 supported charities who are: – SAMH, CHAS and The Scottish Cot Death Trust.

Established in 2012 our not-for-profit Humanist organisation, based in Scotland, have a team of over 50 professional Celebrants conducting Legal Humanist Wedding, Funeral and Naming Ceremonies.

Couples who choose to be married by Fuze are supporting this ongoing work as a portion of their fee is donated to support these causes. During the first half of this year, a total of £10,650 has collectively been given back to our three charities.

Commenting on her task ahead, Gina said; “As a Chartered Town Planner, I have spent the last two decades working in the beautiful historic city of Edinburgh, caring for the built and natural environment. I also have a passion for off the beaten track travel, seeking out different cultures and exploring historic architecture. Vietnam and Cambodia have long been on my list of places I’d love to visit.

I could have booked a sightseeing holiday, but I do like a challenge! And this challenge piqued my interest. Not only will I get to immerse myself in these amazing countries as I cycle through their stunning scenery, but it’s also an opportunity to give back and raise money for charity.

I have self-funded the trip, which means any donations go directly to our chosen charities. You decide which of the three charities you would like to support, and you can donate by visiting one of the three JustGiving pages I’ve set up … (details below).

‘Going for a ride’ for me usually involves a four-legged beast, as I’m a keen horse rider! So, getting back in the saddle on a bike has been a challenge in itself! I started my training at the end of August with a nice flat 10-mile cycle. It felt good … until I got in the saddle two days later and felt the aches and pains! However, determined to stick with it, I’ve continued to get some miles in my legs so I can enjoy the experience when I’m on the trip. The length of time in the saddle per day, combined with the consecutive days of cycling will undoubtedly be challenging!

The 382 km charity cycle will take me through traditional Vietnamese villages, following streams and rivers, passing paddy fields, and views of the stunning mountains. I’ll then cross the border into Cambodia and push on to the world-famous temple site of Angkor Wat – arguably one of the most fascinating wonders of the world!

I can’t deny, I’m a little anxious about the solo travelling and the cycling challenge ahead of me, but I’m sure the whole experience will be phenomenal. And it would be even more phenomenal if you could spare a few pennies to spur me on with this challenge and in doing so support the tireless work of these three incredible charities.”
