How Humanist Values Shape the Work of The Fuze Foundation

June 23, 2026by Morag Webster

Last week, we explored what Humanism means and the values that sit at its heart.

This week, we wanted to share how those values influence the work of The Fuze Foundation and why Humanism is not simply something we talk about, but something we strive to put into practice every day.

At The Fuze Foundation and Fuze Ceremonies, Humanist values help guide our decisions, shape our priorities, and influence the projects and partnerships we choose to support.

They remind us that people matter, that communities are stronger when we support one another, and that kindness and compassion are most meaningful when they lead to action.

Turning Values Into Action

Humanism encourages us to recognise our shared humanity and our responsibility to make a positive contribution to the world around us.

For every member of The Fuze Foundation, that means looking beyond words and focusing on practical ways to support people and communities.

Sometimes that support comes through charitable donations.

Sometimes it comes through fundraising, educational resources, community projects, or working alongside organisations that are making a difference.

Whatever form it takes, the goal remains the same: to help create positive change.

Supporting People Through Life’s Most Important Moments

Through our close relationship with Fuze Ceremonies, we see first-hand the challenges, joys, and experiences that shape people’s lives.

We meet families celebrating new beginnings, couples marking significant milestones, and people navigating grief and loss.

These experiences remind us of the importance of compassion, dignity, and human connection.

They also highlight the ways in which communities can come together to support one another during both the happiest and most difficult times.

Equality, Inclusion and Respect

Humanist values recognise the inherent worth of every individual.

This belief influences our commitment to promoting equality, inclusion, and respect for diversity.

We believe everyone deserves to feel valued, welcomed, and supported regardless of their background, identity, circumstances, or beliefs.

These principles shape not only the work we do but also the partnerships we build and the causes we choose to champion.

Giving Back

Fuze’s Humanist Celebrants

One of the most visible ways Humanist values influence our work is through our commitment to giving back.

Since 2012, the collective efforts of our celebrants, families, couples, supporters, and volunteers have helped contribute more than £122,000 to charitable causes and community projects.

That support has helped a wide range of organisations working across areas including health, bereavement support, education, equality, community wellbeing, and social inclusion.

Our current charity partnerships with Alzheimer Scotland and Beatson Cancer Charity reflect our desire to support causes that touch the lives of many of the people we meet through our work.

Looking Beyond Financial Support

Morag Webster – Chair Fuze Foundation

While fundraising and donations are important, Humanism encourages us to think beyond financial contributions alone.

Building relationships, sharing knowledge, raising awareness, volunteering, and creating opportunities for people to connect can often be just as valuable.

That’s why Fuze seeks to build meaningful partnerships with the organisations we support rather than simply writing a cheque and walking away.

We want to understand the challenges they face, celebrate the work they do, and explore how we can help them reach even more people.

Looking Ahead

Humanist values are often described using words such as compassion, fairness, dignity, equality, and kindness.

These are important values, but their real impact is measured by what we do with them.

At The Fuze Foundation, we will always remain committed to turning those values into action, supporting communities, helping those facing challenges, and creating opportunities to make a positive difference.

Because Humanism is not simply about what we believe.

It is about how we choose to treat one another and the difference we choose to make.
